NYT: Iranian officials avoid meetings with Supreme Leader Khamenei Due to fears of Israeli tracking
Iranian officials are avoiding in-person meetings with Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei due to fears that Israel could track movements and locate his hiding place, according to The New York Times, citing sources.
The report claimed that despite serious injuries, Khamenei remains mentally “sharp” and continues to follow ongoing developments in the country.
“Though Mr. Khamenei was gravely wounded, he is mentally sharp and engaged, according to four senior Iranian officials familiar with his health. One leg was operated on three times, and he is awaiting a prosthetic. He had surgery on one hand and is slowly regaining function. His face and lips have been burned severely, making it difficult for him to speak, the officials said, adding that, eventually, he will need plastic surgery,” the outlet provided detailed information on his condition.
According to the same sources, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, a cardiothoracic surgeon by training, along with the health minister, are personally involved in his medical care.
For security reasons and to avoid projecting vulnerability, Khamenei is not appearing in public. Communication with him is maintained through handwritten notes delivered by trusted couriers.
