Türkish broadcast regulator fines 3 TV channels over violations
Türkiye’s Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) has imposed sanctions on broadcasters TV8, TLC and Kanal 26 following a review of on-air violations, Turkish media reported.
The channel TLC was fined and had one of its programmes suspended after airing the film “Geber!” (“Die!” / “Drop Dead!”), which regulators said normalised violence and presented it as a way of resolving problems, in breach of broadcasting principles.
TV8 was also fined over an incident in the programme “Zuhal Topal’la Yemekteyiz”, where remarks directed at a 70-year-old participant were deemed to have violated human dignity. RTÜK also criticised the programme’s host for failing to intervene, allowing the content to remain in the broadcast version for ratings purposes.
In addition, Kanal 26 received a fine after comments made on the programme “Açık Futbol” were found to have breached standards relating to respect for human dignity.
