Zelenskyy announces Ukraine delegation to discuss security with European advisors
Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) head Rustem Umerov and Chief of General Staff Andriy Hnatov will meet today, December 3, in Brussels with advisors to European leaders on national security, President Volodymyr Zelenskyy announced.
In a post on his Telegram channel, Zelenskyy said that Umerov reported on preparations for meetings in Brussels with European national security advisors and noted that Hnatov will join Umerov in the discussions, Caliber.Az reports.
“Ukrainian representatives will inform their European colleagues about what is known following yesterday’s [December 2] contacts by the American side in Moscow, and will also discuss the European component necessary in the security architecture,” Zelenskyy stated.
Ukrainian leader emphasised that after Brussels, Umerov and Hnatov will prepare a meeting with representatives of President Trump in the United States.”
On December 2, 2025, US envoy Steve Witkoff and presidential adviser Jared Kushner met with Vladimir Putin in Moscow for almost five hours, aiming to advance a US-proposed plan to end the war in Ukraine.
According to the Kremlin, talks were “constructive and substantive,” but the parties failed to reach an agreement on the most sensitive issue — control over Ukrainian territories.
Observers note that the discussions focused on an updated US-Ukraine framework — revised from an earlier draft — but no final settlement emerged, meaning further rounds of talks will be needed.
Immediately after the Moscow meeting, Ukrainian leadership — including the National Security and Defense Council of Ukraine (NSDC) — signalled they were waiting for clear indications from the U.S. side before defining next steps for Kyiv.
