Türkiye's opposition coalition collapses as Erdogan wins
The opposition coalition Union of Nations has collapsed in Türkiye.
The announcement was voiced by Ugur Poyraz, general secretary of the IYI party, speaking on Sozcu TV, Star reports.
The seven-party coalition suffered a major defeat and lost the elections on May 28. With the withdrawal of presidential candidate Kemal Kilicdaroglu from the coalition, signs of the alliance's demise began to emerge.
Noting that the alliance had united only for the elections, Poyraz said: "The nation's alliance is an electoral alliance. When the election is over, the alliance situation is over, the alliance is over, the election is over. As of May 28, the electoral alliance is over".
Having evaluated and concluded objections, Türkiye’s Supreme Election Council (YSK) on June 1 announced the final official results of May’s presidential and parliamentary elections and confirmed President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s victory in the May 28 runoff vote, Daily Sabah reported.
Erdoğan won the presidential runoff with 52.18 per cent from 27,834,589 voters, while his main challenger Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu garnered 25,504,724 votes, amounting to 47.82 per cent, YSK chief Ahmet Yener told reporters in Ankara.
