Road closures planned in Tbilisi for Christmas Alilo procession
Traffic in parts of Tbilisi will be temporarily restricted on January 7 due to the traditional Christmas procession known as Alilo, city authorities have announced.
Tbilisi City Hall said the measures are being implemented to facilitate the annual religious procession, a tradition that dates back more than 15 centuries, Caliber.Az reports, citing Georgian media.
The Alilo procession is primarily charitable in nature, with residents of the capital offering gifts and making monetary donations. These contributions are later distributed to disadvantaged families, orphans, and residents of nursing homes.
The procession is scheduled to begin at First Republic Square at 14:00 and will continue until 16:00. During this time, several central streets in the Georgian capital will be partially closed, and motorists will be redirected to alternative routes.
City officials have urged residents and visitors to plan their travel in advance and to follow traffic instructions to minimize disruptions during the event.
