Azerbaijani FM: Armenia continues to support, encourage separatism

On September 19, Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov, as part of a working visit to New York, met with Italian Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Antonio Tajani.

At the meeting the ministers expressed satisfaction with the development of ties between Azerbaijan and Italy in all areas, in particular in the economic, energy, and humanitarian fields, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs told Caliber.Az.

Speaking about the situation in the region, Bayramov emphasized that Armenia, in gross violation of international law and paragraph 4 of the Tripartite Declaration of November 10, 2020, has still not completely withdrawn its armed forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, continues to use all possible political, military, financial means to support and encourage separatism by ideological means, which is contrary to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

Bayramov noted that in recent days, military provocations by Armenia and the illegal regime it created in the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan have especially intensified, and a strengthening of their military positions has also been observed.

All this indicates the preparation of another large-scale military provocation by Armenian armed forces illegally stationed on the territory of Azerbaijan.

The minister emphasized that on September 19, as a result of the explosion of mines laid by reconnaissance and sabotage groups of illegal Armenian armed groups, 6 people were killed, and 6 more people were seriously injured.

Bayramov said that local anti-terrorism measures carried out by the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan are aimed exclusively against legitimate military targets and at neutralizing the illegal military infrastructure of Armenia.

He emphasized that the Azerbaijani side is determined to ensure all the rights and freedoms of the Armenian residents of the Karabakh economic region, their security on the basis of the Constitution of the Republic of Azerbaijan and international human rights mechanisms.

The minister emphasized that in order to stabilize the situation in the region, a complete withdrawal of the Armenian Armed Forces from the territory of Azerbaijan, the disarmament of illegal Armenian armed formations, and the dissolution of all elements of the illegal regime are necessary.
