Kremlin calls Armenia’s ratification of Rome Statute "extremely hostile" decision
Russian presidential spokesperson Dmitry Peskov commented on the decision of the Armenian parliamentary commission to adopt the draft on ratification of the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court (ICC).
He called it extremely hostile towards Russia. A Kremlin spokesman said President Vladimir Putin is not planning a visit to Armenia in the near future, according to Kommersant.
“This is not something we welcome. But Armenia is a sovereign state and we, of course, hope that such decisions will not negatively affect our bilateral relations, because here we are talking about a statute that we do not recognize, we are not a party to it. But these decisions are extremely hostile for us,” Peskov said during a press call.
Earlier today, Armenia's representative for international legal affairs, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, said that the republic had offered Russia a bilateral agreement for a legal solution to the Rome Statute.
