About 40 per cent of migrants who left in 2022 returned to Russia.
The demand for residence permits among Russians fell tenfold in 2023, the Finion company, which specializes in assistance in obtaining residence permits abroad, told Izvestia.
Finion provides data based on a survey of 2,700 current or potential clients. The recruiting company HeadHunter, based on an analysis of the resumes of applicants who changed their place of residence from the Russian Federation to another country last year, reported that approximately 26 per cent of migrants returned to Russia.
According to Rosstat, in the first half of 2022, 419,000 people left Russia. Forbes sources reported that after mobilization was announced in September last year, approximately 700,000 people left the country, and 200,000 of them went to Kazakhstan.
In October, the Financial Times reported that 15 per cent of migrants returned to Russia. According to data cited by the FT, Russians are coming back due to the worsening situation in the Middle East, as well as deteriorating living conditions abroad.
