US veto of UN Security Council resolution means continuation of horrific bloodshed in Gaza   Russian Foreign Ministry says

The Russian Foreign Ministry has made an official statement saying that the United States' stance on the settlement of the conflict in the Gaza Strip means the continuation of the horrendous bloodshed.

On December 9, the US blocked a UN Security Council resolution proposed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) calling for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. 13 UN Security Council members voted in favor of the resolution, the UK abstained, and the United States was the only one to oppose it.

An official statement by the Russian Foreign Ministry on the consideration of the situation in the Palestinian enclave by the UN Security Council drew attention to the fact that only the US voted against the UAE resolution.

"This means the continuation of monstrous bloodshed, catastrophic destruction, which will and is taking place not by mistake, but by ... decision of one country - the United States," the ministry said in a statement.

The Foreign Ministry also said that in addition to this resolution, representatives of the UAE prepared and submitted another document for consideration by the UN Security Council - on increasing and monitoring the delivery of humanitarian aid to the Gaza Strip. At present, the text is at the final stage of discussion by the Security Council member states.
