Armenia sends special forces to unblock road in border village

22 April 2024 09:52

Armenian MP Garnik Danielyan has said that special forces were sent to unblock the road near Kirants village in Armenia’s Tavush district.

The special forces heading to Kirants are ready to use force against protesting local residents, Armenia’s Hraparak news website reports, citing Danielyan.

Danielyan noted that despite this threat, the villagers are still in their places and are blocking the highway.

Previously, the information went viral that local residents who are against the process of returning villages to Azerbaijan in the Tavush district bordering Armenia blocked the road between Kirants and Voskepar settlements and lit bonfires on it.

Yerevan announced the agreement on individual sections of the border with Baku on April 19. They will stretch between the settlements of Baganis (Armenia) - Baganis Ayrim (Azerbaijan), Voskepar (Armenia) - Ashagi Askipara (Azerbaijan), Kirants (Armenia) - Kheyrimli (Azerbaijan) and Berkaber (Armenia) - Gizilhajili (Azerbaijan). The borders would be brought into line with the legally valid inter-republican border that existed within the Soviet Union at the moment of its collapse.
