European Parliament adopts resolution on EU candidate status for Ukraine
The European Parliament (EP) has adopted a resolution in support of granting Ukraine and Moldova a candidate status for EU membership.
“The European Parliament overwhelmingly adopts a resolution on the candidate status of Ukraine, Moldova, and Georgia: the voting results speak for themselves. A clear signal of support for the candidate status for Ukraine and Moldova ahead of today's EU meeting,” RBC-Ukraine quotes European Parliament member (MEP) Vladimir Bilchik as saying on June 23.
The resolution was supported by 529 MEPs, 45 voted against, while 14 abstained.
On June 23, the heads of states and governments, who will meet at the summit in Brussels, officially and unanimously will declare that Ukraine receives the status of a candidate for EU membership.
