ACES Europe president names Baku top choice for global sporting events

Francesco Lupattelli, President of the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation (ACES Europe), stated at a presentation marking Baku’s designation as the World Capital of Sport that the city is globally significant, not only in terms of sport but across all areas.

He noted that Baku is the ideal capital for hosting major sporting events, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.

"We know that Baku is a very important city globally, not only in terms of sport but across all areas. The previous World Capital of Sport was Monaco. Today, it is with great pleasure that we officially award the title of World Capital of Sport to Baku. We believe that Baku is more than capable of fulfilling this role," Lupattelli said.

It should be noted that the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation has selected Baku as the World Capital of Sport for 2026.
