Activists propose assistance to ethnic Armenian citizens of Azerbaijan in Karabakh
Armenian media allegedly claimed that ethnic Armenians in the hospitals were not able to go to Armenia for treatment due to the closure of the Lachin-Shusha-Khankendi road allegedly by the Azerbaijani eco-activists.
However, one of the leaders of the protest on the highway, Dilara Afandiyeva, Head of the Women: Peace and Security Centre at the Society for the Protection of Women's Rights in Azerbaijan Organisation came out with a proposal that could decry the claims of the Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
Afandiyeva said that the Armenian media is spreading information that some of the Azerbaijani citizens of Armenian origin need medical assistance and, accordingly, passage on the road where our action is taking place.
"As a woman and as a mother, I can assure our citizens living in Khankandi and other towns and villages in Azerbaijan in the zone of temporary responsibility of the Russian peacekeepers that we, as organisers of the peaceful action, are genuinely interested in providing prompt medical assistance to these people," she said.
"That is why I leave my telephone number, which I can always be contacted by, and we can discuss organisational issues regarding the transport of patients. This is how, through people-to-people contact, we will once again return to living together peacefully and harmoniously in Azerbaijan, despite attempts by radicals and nationalists to prevent us from getting closer. On behalf of the action’s participants, I declare that we are ready to provide the necessary assistance for the passage of individual vehicles, while the action itself will continue."
