Over 1,700 families receive social housing in Azerbaijan's liberated areas
Under the Great Return program, which envisions the repatriation of former internally displaced persons (IDPs) to their ancestral homelands in the liberated territories, Azerbaijan’s State Housing Development Agency (MIDA) has completed new housing projects in the districts of Fuzuli and Jabrayil, as well as in the city of Khojaly.
MIDA, which is responsible for constructing and distributing affordable housing, announced these accomplishments during the 3rd National Urban Forum (NUFA3) of Azerbaijan, according to local media reports.
The statement was delivered by MIDA Chief Farman Gurbanli on the second day of the event held in Khankendi.
According to Gurbanli, more than 1,700 families have been resettled into apartments built by the agency in the liberated territories. He also emphasized that MIDA places strong focus on the development of social infrastructure as part of its affordable housing initiatives.
The agency head noted that the projects include not only residential buildings but also essential public facilities: “Construction of 22 social facilities has begun, 16 of which have already been put into operation – these include 5 schools, 9 kindergartens, and 2 medical institutions.”
He added that MIDA has implemented a total of 18 projects over the past nine years, with 12,000 apartments fully commissioned in eight of them. Construction is currently ongoing for four more projects, while design work continues for another three.
MIDA’s projects span the entire country, with five major social housing developments are located in the capital city.
