American OSCE envoy: We want delimitation of border, peace agreement between Azerbaijan, Armenia
The Permanent US Representative to the OSCE (Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe), Michael Carpenter, gave a special online briefing in which he touched upon issues relating to Azerbaijan and Armenia.
As Caliber.Az reported with reference to the US State Department, during the briefing the journalists asked whether a meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia is planned in the near future, despite Baku’s refusal to participate in negotiations with Yerevan that are attended by the French President.
"The policy of reaching an agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan will lead to peace in the region and normalization of relations. As you know, the United States is very much involved in this process, I would say very much interested in reaching a peace agreement. We will continue our efforts to bring the positions of the ministers and leaders of both countries closer together. It is no secret that we are working very closely with our EU partners on this issue and are considering the possibility of using all necessary means of the OSCE. The organization sent a team to assess the situation on the Armenian side of the Armenian-Azerbaijani border.
Our objective is simple: we want a delimitation of the border, a peace agreement between the two sides, stability in the region, respect for human rights and a new chapter in the history of the South Caucasus. Obviously, it will take some time to achieve the final result, but we are ready to do everything possible to support this process", Ambassador Carpenter said.
