Armenia allocates extra $11 million for defence needs
The Armenian government decided on Thursday, November 6, to allocate an additional 4.371 billion drams (about $11 million) for defence needs.
The funds will be directed toward ensuring the security and inviolability of the country’s borders, Caliber.Az reports per Armenian media.
According to the explanatory note, the allocation will be used to bolster efforts to enhance border protection.
It is worth recalling that in 2025, compared with 2024, Armenia’s defence spending increased by 115 billion drams — roughly $300 million — reaching 660 billion drams ($1.717 billion). In 2026, spending is expected to decrease by 100 billion drams to 560 billion ($1.455 billion).
In recent months, Armenia has continued restructuring its armed forces, with Defence Minister Suren Papikyan stating that procurement programmes and broader military reforms remain a priority for the government.
Armenia has also begun testing new field-uniform prototypes as part of its effort to modernise personnel equipment.
Meanwhile, discussions on reducing military service terms have intensified, reflecting broader adjustments to the country’s defence posture.
