Armenia, Georgia step up cooperation in economic and tourism sectors

27 December 2023 11:23

Georgian Ambassador to Armenia Giorgi Sharvashidze highlighted the upbeat dynamics observed in Armenian-Georgian relations.

"Bilateral cooperation between Georgia and Armenia is developing positively, trade between the countries is growing and the number of tourists has increased," he said, Caliber.Az reports citing Georgian media.

From January to September 2023, 736.1 thousand Armenian citizens visited Georgia, an increase of 41.1 per cent compared to the first nine months of 2022 and a decrease of 25.9 per cent compared to 2019.

"There is a very intense exchange, our bilateral cooperation is developing in a positive way. One thing is a fact: we have increased trade, including tourism, more than 700,000 tourists came to Georgia. This is a historical record. The maximum number of Georgian tourists to Armenia is 190,000," Sharvashidze said.

A total of 1,850,000 tourists, including 190,000 from Georgia, visited Armenia in the first nine months of this year.

According to the diplomat, this indicates the strengthening of Georgia's role as a peacemaker in the Caucasus.

"This is a positive indicator and shows that Georgia's role as an actor, as a peacemaker in the Caucasus is increasing and this is a positive sign for us to build a peaceful Caucasus for a long time," Sharvashidze said.
