Armenia highlights commercial benefits of power grid linkup with regional countries
Synchronising Armenia’s energy system with those of Türkiye, Azerbaijan, Iran, and Georgia is feasible, Armenian Minister of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure David Khudatyan said.
Khudatyan noted that such synchronisation also has commercial significance in terms of electricity imports and exports and would enhance the overall stability of the energy system, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
He stressed that there are currently no technical obstacles to implementing the project, although specific timelines have yet to be determined.
Khudatyan also recalled that he visited Türkiye in 2025, where he held talks with the minister responsible for the energy sector.
Recently, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan spoke in favour of linking Armenia’s energy network with those of Türkiye and Azerbaijan, saying it would boost export capacity and support regional peace. "Armenia could use Azerbaijan’s networks to gain access to larger export markets, and Azerbaijan is interested in the same logic,” Pashinyan said, adding that such a move would also facilitate energy transmissions to the Azerbaijani exclave of Nakhchivan.
