"Armenia once again failed to push through its options" Political analyst Mammadov comments on Josep Borrell's statement
Farhad Mammadov, political analyst and head of the South Caucasus Research Center, commented in his Telegram channel on European Commissioner Josep Borrell's statement that the EU monitoring mission will finish its work in Armenia on December 19.
"EU foreign policy commissioner Borrell made a speech yesterday where he touched upon the EU mission in Armenia, which expires on December 19.
'We agreed to withdraw the Mission because it has reached [its] end, and deploy a team to explore possible further European Union engagement.'
It is noted that the term expires, but there will remain a small mission to explore possible further European Union engagement on the topic.
What is it?
The EU is ending the mission but leaving a team for a possible future presence in Armenia. The fact that the mission did not last automatically, which France demanded, is already a signal to Armenia and France that withdrawal from the negotiation process can be detrimental to Armenia.
The EU requires Armenia and Azerbaijan to have a clear position on recognizing the principle of territorial integrity without any reservations. Pashinyan caused bewilderment among Western partners by agreeing "one hundred percent" with the draft of the peace treaty prepared by Russia.
That's not what he said in Brussels, complaining about Moscow, asking for help... They helped... They sent a mission... Pashinyan used this mission to secure his conditional borders and to bargain with the CSTO to condemn Azerbaijan and provide military assistance...
He failed to persuade CSTO, and then the EU began to realize that the Ijevan fox used them. France, represented by Macron, as a sister country, supports these primitive machinations of Pashinyan.
On the other hand, the decision on the mission in Armenia was made in Prague with Azerbaijan's participation, which means the extension of the mission must be coordinated with Azerbaijan. Baku's opinion will depend on the mission's report on the results of its two-month monitoring on the conditional border.
Armenia once again failed to push through its options... After manipulating and moaning, Pashinyan finds himself in an even worse position...
Pashinyan is being told from all sides that it's time to make decisions, otherwise Azerbaijan will solve its issues on its own, and will soon reach the period when it will no longer be interested in contact with Armenia on any issues," Farhad Mammadov wrote.
