Baku court hears grim testimonies of Armenian atrocities against Azerbaijani hostages in 1992

11 August 2025 15:14

At a hearing in the Baku Military Court on August 11, Aybaniz Orujova testified about the brutality of Armenians who took her and members of her family in 1992.

Just two days after the Khojaly genocide, she and members of her family, including her twin sons, were taken hostage, Caliber.Az reports via local media.

During the attack on Khojaly, Orujova said they fled into the forest and remained there for two days before being captured.

Her relatives, including her brother, were killed.

Orujova emphasised that she was held captive in Khankendi for seven days. She was released on March 20, while her sons were returned to her on March 30.

“They held a knife to my twins’ throats and threatened to behead them. This was their way of torturing me,” Orujova recounted.

Another victim, Hafiza Safarova, shared that on December 7, 1991, during an attack on the village of Divanalilar in the Fuzuli district, she and her family were taken prisoner.

Safarova described being kept in the cold and subjected to harsh treatment along with other captives.

Her father, Karim Safarov, was tortured and killed while in captivity. After seven days, she was released in exchange for gasoline and diesel fuel.

The trial in Baku continues against Armenian citizens accused of crimes against peace and humanity, war crimes, including the preparation and waging of aggressive war, genocide, violations of the laws and customs of war, terrorism, financing terrorism, violent seizure and retention of power, and numerous other offences.
