European allies commit to supporting Azerbaijan and Armenia’s path forward
Belgian Foreign Minister Maxime Prévot has emphasised that lasting peace is crucial not only for the stability and prosperity of Azerbaijan and Armenia but also for the entire South Caucasus region.
Speaking on the significance of the recent peace agreement, Prévot praised the leadership shown by both sides, Caliber.Az reports.
"I commend and highly appreciate the courage and leadership of President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan. The constructive role of the United States in facilitating this agreement should also be noted," he stated on social media, highlighting the important diplomatic efforts behind the accord.
Prévot added that Belgium, alongside the European Union, remains fully committed to supporting the normalisation of relations between Azerbaijan and Armenia and ensuring the swift and genuine implementation of the agreed steps.
His remarks underline the broader international backing for the peace process, which aims to bring lasting stability to the region.
Similarly, Bulgaria has welcomed the initialling of the peace treaty by Azerbaijan and Armenia, expressing readiness to support their efforts toward full normalisation.
According to the Bulgarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the historic agreement represents a clear sign of goodwill and a commitment by both countries to end decades of conflict.
The ministry remarked, "This demonstrates an important step towards the beginning of a new era of peace and prosperity in the region. We will support Baku and Yerevan in their sincere efforts to achieve full normalisation of relations."
Slovenia also voiced strong appreciation for the progress made, recognising both the efforts of Azerbaijan and Armenia and the role played by the White House administration in advancing the peace process.
The Slovenian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs expressed optimism about the future, stating, "This will undoubtedly open up new opportunities and prosperity for the region."
Adding to the chorus of European support, Albania welcomed the historic milestone toward peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia, formalised at the White House under the special leadership of President Donald Trump. The Albanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs posted on X, “We commend the vision of both nations in choosing dialogue over division — marking the end of decades of conflict, and laying the foundation towards a full normalization of relations.”
These statements followed the formal initialling of an agreement on peace and the establishment of interstate relations by the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia during a meeting in Washington on August 8.
The agreement marks a significant milestone in the pursuit of reconciliation and cooperation in the South Caucasus.
