Azerbaijan, Syria discuss media, cultural cooperation at Shusha Global Media Forum
Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration, met with Syria's Minister of Information, Khaled Fawaz Za'arour, and Deputy Minister for Digital Media Muhammad Tafran on the sidelines of the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum.
The sides welcomed the development of bilateral relations across a range of areas, highlighting the role of recent meetings between the two countries' leaders, including the Syrian president's visit to Azerbaijan, in strengthening tie, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The discussions also focused on cooperation in the fields of information and media. Hajiyev thanked the Syrian delegation for participating in the forum and noted that Azerbaijan will assume the chairmanship of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) next year and host the organisation's summit.
He said Azerbaijan plans to convene a meeting of information ministers from OIC member states during its chairmanship and invited the Syrian minister to attend.
The meeting also covered cooperation in the cultural, humanitarian and educational sectors. The two sides highlighted Azerbaijan's support for an Islamic World Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (ICESCO) project to repair and rebuild schools in Syria, describing it as an example of the friendship between the two countries.
The participants also reaffirmed support for Syria's political unity, territorial integrity and sovereignty.
