Azerbaijan, UK MPs talk over closer parliamentary ties, regional peace efforts PHOTO
Speaker of Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (Parliament) Sahiba Gafarova met British lawmaker Bob Blackman, head of the UK–Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group, on Monday (July 13) to discuss bilateral parliamentary ties, regional developments and the Azerbaijan–Armenia peace process.
According to the Azerbaijani parliament, the two sides underlined the importance of inter-parliamentary cooperation in strengthening relations between Baku and London and welcomed the expansion of contacts between the two legislatures, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Gafarova highlighted the role of reciprocal visits by parliamentarians and closer cooperation within international parliamentary organisations.
Blackman said the United Kingdom attached great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan and shared positive impressions of his visit to the country.
The meeting also focused on the regional situation and ongoing peace efforts between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Gafarova briefed the British MP on reconstruction and redevelopment work being carried out in territories recaptured by Azerbaijan.
The two sides also exchanged views on other issues of mutual interest, the statement said.
