Armenia’s foreign policy aligns with global developments, says Pashinyan
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said the country’s foreign policy is now in step with international processes.
Speaking at a meeting with Armenian ambassadors, Pashinyan reflected on the nation’s historical challenges and their implications for its diplomatic approach, Caliber.Az reports.
“Examining the catastrophes we have experienced throughout our history and their specific characteristics, we conclude that we have generally failed to synchronise our historical trajectory with the rhythm of international events,” he said.
The prime minister referred to the recent Washington declaration, signed by Armenia and Azerbaijan on August 8 with US mediation, as well as the initialling of a peace agreement between the two countries.
“What happened in Washington shows that the pace of our policy has now aligned with certain international processes. This is arguably our first real opportunity in centuries to correspond with global developments, and it is an extremely important conclusion,” Pashinyan added.
He also highlighted the evolving relationship between Armenian society and political theory.
“One of Armenia’s greatest challenges has been that the theories guiding the country were typically shaped by elites and, to put it mildly, imposed on society. Today, we live in times when the reverse is happening: ideas emerge within the consciousness of the people, and are formulated and implemented by representatives of the people. It is crucial to preserve the organic nature of this process,” he said.
