Workers at Georgia’s largest fertiliser plant go on strike over pay
Workers at Rustavi Azot, the South Caucasus’ largest producer of industrial chemicals and mineral fertilisers, have gone on strike demanding higher wages.
The protest was sparked after management offered a 4% pay increase, which employees say is insufficient, Caliber.Az reports via Georgian media.
“We will continue our strike until we receive a raise of 300 lari ($111). Until then, we will strike daily,” the workers said.
Rustavi Azot plays a key role in the region’s chemical industry and is considered a cornerstone of Georgia’s industrial sector.
Rustavi Azot is the largest chemical company producing industrial chemicals and mineral fertilisers in the South Caucasus. According to the company’s official website, more than 2,000 people are employed at the plant.
