Armenia’s ruling party MP slams Russia for avoiding to supply arms
Gagik Melkonyan, a member of Armenia’s ruling Civil Contract parliamentary faction, has criticized Russia for refusing to supply arms to the country.
"We are a member of the CSTO, but the CSTO led by Russia does not give us any weapons, although we paid everything in advance. Now it does not return these sums either," Melkonyan said during an interview with Armenian media, Caliber.Az reports.
"We used to have a shameful agreement that we should buy weapons only from Russia. And Russia used to give us old weapons, old equipment. In 2002-2004, when I was in the service, we used to take equipment, give money for repairs and bring in repaired equipment. And in recent years they have given nothing at all. During the time of Serzh Sargsyan, we were given Iskander, we were happy, but then we realized that the Iskanders were not Iskanders either. They were just ordinary shells.
Armenia has already realized that it is necessary to look for an alternative, and it has already been found. We already have agreements with many countries, even related to arms. They don't like it. They constantly criticize the West," the MP said.
