Armenia’s ruling party to form election list live on air
The Armenian ruling Civil Contract party will form its pre-election candidate list live on air.
Around 1,000 delegates will conduct an internal selection process over three consecutive days in a live broadcast format, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Yerevan-based outlet Zhoghovurd.
In particular, they will determine the order of the candidates on the electoral list through voting. Prior to this, the party will hold a congress and announce the leaders of the list.
Nikol Pashinyan, as party chairman and incumbent Prime Minister, is expected to head the list again, having self-nominated earlier (November 2025), along with other high-profile figures like Parliament Speaker Alen Simonyan, Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan, and possibly Yerevan Mayor Tigran Avinyan.
Armenia is scheduled to hold parliamentary elections on 7 June 2026. The exact date is expected to be officially set by the president, with June 7 being the likely choice under constitutional provisions.
Pashinyan has confirmed his intention to lead Civil Contract into the race and run for another term as prime minister.
The opposition remains fragmented, with figures such as former president Robert Kocharyan and his Hayastan Alliance positioning themselves as challengers, though internal divisions and weak organizational strength have hindered unified opposition momentum.
