Pashinyan: Armenia, United States initiate talks on opening Trump Route
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan announced that Armenia and the United States have commenced discussions regarding the opening of the Trump Route, a 42-kilometre segment located within Armenian territory and forming a critical part of the broader Zangezur corridor. This route is set to traverse southern Armenia and function as a key transit corridor connecting mainland Azerbaijan to its exclave, Nakhchivan.
Speaking at a briefing in Strasbourg, Pashinyan confirmed that an American delegation recently visited Armenia, marking the beginning of a series of diplomatic engagements aimed at finalizing the operational details of the transit corridor, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
“The American delegation recently visited Armenia. The discussions have begun and will continue,” he stated.
To recall, significant diplomatic developments unfolded at the Washington summit convened by US President Donald Trump. During the summit, Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan signed a joint declaration outlining a seven-point framework that underscored mutual respect for sovereignty, the recognition of territorial integrity, and a commitment to the renunciation of force.
In a parallel development, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialled a draft “Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Inter-State Relations” in the presence of Trump, Aliyev, and Pashinyan, marking a critical step towards formalising a durable peace between the two nations.
A central element of the framework is the “Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity” (TRIPP), widely known as the Zangezur Corridor. This transit route, which would run through southern Armenia, is designed to connect Azerbaijan with its Nakhchivan exclave and is considered strategically and economically important for the wider region.
