Armenian analyst calls nation "land of political concubines" Stark critique of current leadership

15 October 2024 10:37

Political analyst Alen Ghevondyan critiques the current state of Armenia, arguing that the country has become a "nation of political concubines."

In his analysis, he suggests that Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is well aware of when he might evade accountability — specifically, when the Republic of Armenia is "naively" dismantled through collective efforts, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.

Ghevondyan observes, "He continues to pedal his bicycle, attempting to convey that nothing is within his control, and he bears no guilt or responsibility. The only thing that relies on him is the bicycle, which he rides, stopping near familiar puddles to indulge in dreams."

According to Ghevondyan, Pashinyan is closely monitoring the post-election landscape in Georgia, as well as the escalating inter-ethnic tensions in the North Caucasus. He anticipates that these developments will influence Pashinyan's public strategies.

The analyst warns that if unrest erupts in Iran — which he believes is likely — Armenia could find itself isolated and blockaded from both the north and south. In such a scenario, Ghevondyan argues that Pashinyan will justify the Turkish influence of his backers, claiming, "This is war; we can only import through the Turkish border, compelling us to become a vilayet."

He highlights that Azerbaijan has firmly rejected this prospect, yet contends that regional geopolitics will ultimately dictate the outcome. Ghevondyan asserts that Pashinyan has done everything possible to leave the Republic of Armenia isolated, presenting the dire alternatives of physical extermination, Turkification, or state disintegration.

In his conclusion, he emphasizes that Armenia's current political landscape embodies the notion of a "nation of political concubines."
