Armenian forces shell Azerbaijani positions in Nakhchivan

Positions of the Azerbaijani army in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic were reportedly shelled by Armenian forces on August 18, according to a statement from Azerbaijan's Ministry of Defence.

"On August 18, at about 19:30, the Armenian armed forces units, using small arms, subjected to fire the Azerbaijan Army positions stationed in the direction of Lakatagh settlement of the Julfa region of the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic," Caliber.Az quotes the ministry as saying.

In response to the attack, Azerbaijani forces acted promptly. "Azerbaijan Army Units took adequate retaliatory measures in the mentioned direction," the ministry noted, though specifics of the response were not provided.
