Armenian media: Peace talks going in line with Azerbaijani president’s scenario
The Golos Armenii newspaper has claimed that the peace talks between the Armenian and Azerbaijani leaders are going according to Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s scenario.
The publication made the remarks in an article about the recent meeting between Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, Caliber.Az reports.
"Actually, as always during the negotiations with Pashinyan, as well as this time in Munich, Aliyev sat with a contemptuous smile. Why not, if he knows that everything is going according to his scenario? What did Aliyev achieve this time in Munich?" the newspaper writes.
"Recognition that Armenian-Azerbaijani relations are henceforth regulated without mediators. He [Aliyev] said this to the OSCE Chairman-in-Office, suggesting that the latter officially disband the Minsk Group and cut the post of the Special Representative of the Chairman-in-Office. On condition that meaningful discussions between him and Pashinyan would be conducted in a bilateral format, Aliyev agreed to the meeting, which was opened by Olaf Scholz, who soon departed, leaving poor Pashinyan alone with Aliyev.
It is a fact that Aliyev henceforth intends to speak with Pashinyan only on a bilateral platform. It's easier with Pashinyan. But it is not a fact that this bilateral platform will be the last one. It is not excluded that after some time negotiations on concessions to Azerbaijan will again be conducted in a trilateral format. Only this time in the Ankara-Yerevan-Baku format.
But as a consolation for Aliyev's contemptuous smiles, Richard Moore, head of the British Foreign Intelligence Service (MI6), met with Pashinyan. They talked about this, that, and nothing... Pashinyan probably sent greetings to Armen Sarkissian...", the newspaper writes.
