Armenian military revises number of missing from 44-day war
Armenia’s inability to provide a definitive account of those missing from the 2020 Karabakh war continues to spark anguish among families, as new discrepancies emerge in official figures.
On the evening of September 29, Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Edward Asryan, met with parents of missing servicemen in what became an emotionally charged and tense gathering, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
The closed-door meeting, which began at approximately 8:30 p.m. and extended until 11:00 p.m., was attended by around 30 parents.
Emotions ran high during the session, with one mother reportedly falling ill and requiring emergency medical assistance. Attendees were assured by General Asryan that such meetings would be held on a regular basis moving forward.
Notably, the meeting revealed a significant discrepancy in the number of individuals officially listed as missing. While Armenia's National Security Service (NSS) had previously placed the figure at 195, General Asryan presented a revised list containing 265 names — a difference of 70 individuals.
