Armenian opposition offices searched in anti-corruption operation
Searches have been carried out at the offices of the opposition bloc Armenia and at the apartment of Ashot Simonyan, head of the Dashnaktsutyun party, which is part of the bloc.
The information was reported on Facebook by Ishkhan Saghatelyan, a member of the Armenia faction and bureau member of Dashnaktsutyun, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“The Anti-Corruption Committee conducted searches in the offices of the ‘Armenia’ bloc in the city of Ashtarak and in the apartment of the head of the bureau of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation Dashnaktsutyun, MP (from the Armenia faction) Ashot Simonyan,” Saghatelyan said in a video statement.
He added that the authorities were attempting through such actions “to restrict and disrupt the activities of election headquarters and to influence our supporters and voters, which will not succeed.”
The opposition representative called on international observers to document the situation and provide an appropriate assessment.
Parliamentary elections in Armenia are scheduled for June 7, with 18 political forces participating, including the ruling Civil Contract party and opposition blocs.
