Armenian parliamentarian against procuring outdated Russian weapons
A ruling party parliamentarian has come against procuring outdated Russian weapons.
“Regarding the start of the Russian supply of weapons to Armenia, I want to say that I once spoke about this - this is just another fodder that they have prepared for us.”
A member of the Armenian parliament from the ruling Civil Contract party and a member of the parliamentary commission on defense and security, Lt-Gen Gagik Melkonyan, told the Armenian media, Caliber. Az reports.
“Russia has not supplied these weapons for so many years, for so long, for which we paid money in advance, and now that it is fighting against Ukraine, what weapons will it supply us with? That is, we should be supplied with weapons and military equipment from the 1980s. We must install something that will not work now.
“Azerbaijan is acquiring modern weapons, while we are still chasing weapons from the 1980s. Russia wants to show that they are ready to help Armenia. However, this help will cost us a lot. I can even say that this help will cost us the corridor in Syunik (Zangazur). We must be very strong to survive all blows, and above all diplomatically,” the parliamentarian said.
