Armenian police cordon off parliament building after night rallies
After a night demonstration and the announcement of a new rally, police cordoned off the Armenian parliament building.
Earlier, the opposition said that the rally demanding Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's impeachment would resume in the morning [of September 15]. The opposition factions Armenia and I Have Honour have already signed the document on the start of the procedure; however, the signatures of 18 more deputies are required, Caliber.Az reports citing the Armenian media.
The police cordon, in particular, blocked the intersection of Demirchyan Street and Baghramyan Avenue, where the entrance to the parliament building is located.
Furthermore, the administration of the National Assembly decided to reinforce the gates, which the demonstrators had weakened at night.
Welding work is being done.
On September 14, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan said during the government hour in the country's parliament that Yerevan intends to sign a certain document (with Baku - ed.). This caused a wave of discontent among citizens. Protests have begun in the Armenian capital. Following this, the head of the government made a live broadcast with explanations, refuting the information about the signing of any document with Azerbaijan. According to him, there is not even a draft of such an agreement.
However, the action continued on the night of September 15. Opposition deputies signed a document on the start of the impeachment process and entered the parliament building to wait for representatives of the ruling faction.
