Attempts by radical forces in Greece to distort history doomed to failure Turkish Foreign Ministry's statement
Turkish Foreign Ministry called "groundless" the claims of some radical groups in Greece about the situation of "Pontic Greeks" in Türkiye.
The statement was made by the Turkish Foreign Ministry on its Twitter account, Caliber.Az reports.
Attempts to cast a shadow on such an important date for Türkiye as the anniversary of the beginning of the national liberation struggle of the Turkish people by spreading lies about the "Pontic Greeks" are doomed to failure, the diplomatic mission noted.
May 19, 1919, is a blessed date when the nation began its struggle for existence under the leadership of the great leader Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, founder of the Republic of Türkiye, stressed the Foreign Ministry.
Ankara recalled that during the national liberation struggle, the Turkish people expelled the invaders from the territory of the country.
"We should not forget the lesson that Greece received by attempting to invade Anatolia with the support of the imperialist powers of the period," the statement stressed.
The Turkish Foreign Ministry recalled the Lausanne Peace Treaty (1923), the text of which clearly stipulates Greece's responsibility for the bloody invasion of Anatolia and violation of the laws and customs of war, and also contains a clause on compensation.
"Ankara calls on politicians who resort to distortions, falsifications and lies to get rid of the hysteria about Türkiye, and to 'face' their own history. We advise all circles in Greece, to abandon provocations in favour of peace and cooperation," the Turkish Foreign Ministry added.
