Azerbaijan accepts invitation to join US-led Board of Peace for Gaza
On January 16, US President Donald Trump announced plans to establish an international organisation called the “Board of Peace” for Gaza and invited the Republic of Azerbaijan to become a founding member.
Azerbaijan accepted the invitation and informed the US of its intention to join the Board of Peace as a founding member, Caliber.Az reports via the Foreign Ministry.
“An official letter of confirmation regarding our country’s membership in the Board of Peace will be addressed to the U.S. side, and appropriate measures will be taken within the framework of the required procedures. Azerbaijan, as always, is ready to actively contribute to international cooperation, peace, and stability,” the ministry said.
The Board of Peace, set to be officially launched by US President Donald Trump on January 22, is designed to oversee reconstruction efforts in Gaza. The initiative stems from the Comprehensive Plan for Ending the Gaza Conflict, presented in September 2025, and has received international recognition, including endorsement through UN Security Council Resolution 2803 on November 17, 2025.
The council aims to bring together countries willing to assume responsibility for long-term stability and peaceful development in the region. It will act as a central platform for monitoring commitments and coordinating resources to rebuild affected areas. However, the charter, drafted by the White House, gives Trump veto authority over all decisions, a provision that has drawn scrutiny.
Participation has been mixed: France has declined to join at this stage, several European countries have expressed skepticism, while Morocco, Qatar, and Indonesia have confirmed their involvement. Trump has invited a total of 58 leaders.
