Azerbaijan advances construction of strategic railway linking Türkiye, Armenia PHOTO
Azerbaijan Railways CJSC (ADY) is making steady progress in the construction of a new railway line in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, marking a significant step in the country’s regional transport strategy.
The project considers the reconstruction of 10 railway stations along a 194.1-kilometre route, alongside the construction of 814 engineering structures. These include 29 bridges, four tunnels, and 12 protective galleries, underscoring the scale and technical complexity of the undertaking, Caliber.Az reports, citing ADY.
The new railway line will integrate with the Zangazur Corridor, providing direct overland connectivity between mainland Azerbaijan and the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic. Beyond strengthening domestic transport links, the project is expected to open up access to Turkish, Armenian, and broader European markets.
Positioned as a key component of the Middle Corridor as well as the North–South international transport route, the railway is set to enhance regional connectivity, facilitate trade flows, and reinforce Azerbaijan’s role as a strategic transit hub at the crossroads of Eurasia.
