Azerbaijan also offers Fuzuli-Shusha road to Karabakh Armenians

16 August 2023 14:07

Azerbaijani presidential aide Hikamt Hakjiyev has said that the country also offered the Fuzuli-Shusha road to Armenian residents of Karabagh which can be used for the delivery of cargo and goods.

He made the remarks while speaking to journalists as foreign diplomats visited Aghdam, APA reports.

“We see this road we are standing on, as well as the Aghdam-Khankandi road, as a part of the integration of the Armenian residents of Karabakh into the political, economic, and social sphere of Azerbaijan.

Firstly, this is a factor that serves integration, secondly, it is more efficient and cheaper in terms of transportation, and at the same time, along with the delivery of goods from the main part of Azerbaijan to Karabakh, it also provides access to the main transport infrastructure system of Azerbaijan for the residents of Karabakh. This road does not in any way negate the Lachin road, but it is always good to have one or several roads at the same time.

This is no longer a diplomatic secret and we also noted that on the statement of the Foreign Ministry. It was agreed on August 5th that ICRC will deliver these humanitarian cargoes to Khankandi through this road. We further agreed that after 24 hours the Lachin-Khankandi road will be opened by observing the border and customs regime of Azerbaijan, following the laws.

A meeting was planned between the representative of Azerbaijan and the representative of Armenian residents of Karabakh in the city of Yevlakh as part of the agreement, and we were ready to discuss all reintegration and social infrastructure projects.

After we declared this road open for use, the Armenians started putting blocks and concrete barriers on that road. Then they started accusing Azerbaijan. As Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev told international journalists at the Global Media Forum in Shusha, now look who is blocking whom. Armenia blocks roads, and Azerbaijan simply opens and builds roads, not only land roads but also railway lines,” he said.
