Azerbaijan continues repatriating its citizens from Syria
Some 7 citizens of Azerbaijan, who were held in camps located in Syria, were repatriated to their homeland on February 20, the Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry told Caliber.Az.
The repatriation of 7 citizens of the Republic of Azerbaijan, namely 5 children and 2 women, who were detained in camps in Syria, was carried out on February 20 as a result of gradual and coordinated actions of the Azerbaijani government.
According to the ministry, the repatriates' location, identity and citizenship were established first. Then their transfer to the territory of Türkiye was ensured.
Representatives of the state structures responsible for repatriating Azerbaijani citizens from Iraq and Syria were sent to Türkiye, where medical and psychological examinations of those repatriated were carried out. The Embassy of Azerbaijan in Türkiye coordinated the repatriation and our citizens were provided with certificates for returning to Azerbaijan and air tickets.
Measures for the social rehabilitation and reintegration of the returnees into society are planned for the next stage. The Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan will continue to take the necessary measures for the repatriation of Azerbaijani citizens who were victims of the armed conflict on the territory of foreign states.
