Azerbaijan, ESCAP explore new avenues for enhanced cooperation
On January 15, 2025, Azerbaijan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) and Ambassador to Thailand, Elchin Bashirov, met with ESCAP’s Executive Secretary, Armida Salcia Alishahbana, to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Commission.
According to the Azerbaijan Embassy, the meeting focused on exploring ways to enhance bilateral cooperation between Baku and ESCAP, with both sides expressing a commitment to deepening ties, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
Ambassador Bashirov was appointed as Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Thailand in July 2024.
ESCAP, one of the UN’s regional commissions, plays a crucial role in promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth throughout the Asia-Pacific region.
Founded in 1947, ESCAP works to strengthen cooperation among its member states across diverse regions, including East Asia, South Asia, Southeast Asia, the Pacific, and Central Asia. Its activities cover a wide range of areas such as economic development, environmental sustainability, social inclusion, and regional integration.
The Commission also provides technical assistance, policy analysis, and capacity-building support to its member countries. ESCAP’s headquarters are in Bangkok, Thailand, where it collaborates with various UN agencies, governments, and regional organizations to address the region’s most pressing challenges.
