Azerbaijan Grand Prix secures place on Formula 1 calendar until 2030
Formula 1 has confirmed that the Azerbaijan Grand Prix will remain a fixture on the racing calendar for another four years, extending through 2030, the Baku operating company announced, local media reports, citing Baku Operating Company.
The current three-year contract is set to expire in 2026.
This year’s Azerbaijan Grand Prix kicked off on September 19 and will run until September 21, bringing thrilling high-speed action to the streets of Baku.
The Baku City Circuit stretches 306.049 km, featuring 20 challenging turns over 51 laps.
Baku first hosted a Formula 1 race in 2016 under the name European Grand Prix, and since 2017 it has officially been known as the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. Over the years, the race has seen victories from some of the sport’s biggest names: Nico Rosberg (Germany), Daniel Ricciardo (Australia), Lewis Hamilton (UK), Valtteri Bottas (Finland), Sergio Perez (Mexico), and Max Verstappen (Netherlands). Sergio Perez claimed his second Baku win in 2023, while McLaren’s Oscar Piastri triumphed in 2024. The 2020 event was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Ahead of this year’s race, McLaren’s Oscar Piastri leads the drivers’ standings with 324 points, followed by teammate Lando Norris with 293 points, and Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in third place with 230 points. In the Constructors’ Championship, McLaren holds a commanding lead with 617 points, far ahead of Ferrari (280) and Mercedes (260).
With its extended contract, Baku continues to promise adrenaline-fueled action and memorable moments for fans of Formula 1 for years to come.
