Azerbaijan, Iran discuss strengthening ties and future cooperation PHOTO
Azerbaijani Prime Minister Ali Asadov met with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian during a working visit to Tehran on July 31.
At the meeting, Asadov extended the congratulations of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on the beginning of Pezeshkian’s presidential term, the Azerbaijani Cabinet of Ministers told Caliber.Az.
The prime minister also presented a letter of invitation from President Aliyev, inviting President Pezeshkian to attend the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29).
During the meeting, both leaders expressed satisfaction with the positive development of friendly and cooperative relations between Azerbaijan and Iran across various sectors. They also discussed future prospects for enhancing collaboration in all areas of mutual interest.
Iran and Azerbaijan have a long history of cultural and historical ties. Iran and Azerbaijan have pursued various economic partnerships, including trade agreements and joint ventures. Both countries have worked to increase trade volume and investment, particularly in sectors like energy, agriculture, and infrastructure.
Energy is a crucial aspect of their economic relationship. While Azerbaijan is a significant oil and gas producer, Iran has sought to enhance cooperation in the energy sector, including joint projects in oil and gas exploration and development.
The countries have collaborated on several infrastructure projects, including transportation networks. Notable projects include the development of transport corridors connecting Azerbaijan to Iran and beyond, such as the North-South Transport Corridor.
