Azerbaijan-Iran relations set for further growth in key sectors, Deputy PM says
Azerbaijani-Iranian relations have gained significant momentum in light of new regional realities, Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev stated during an official reception in Baku celebrating Iran's National Day.
"Progress is evident in the implementation of various joint projects between our countries," Mustafayev remarked, highlighting the strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Iran, Caliber.Az reports referencing local media.
He further emphasized that both presidents place great importance on advancing bilateral cooperation, particularly through the implementation of joint projects and agreements that aim to foster regional development.
"President Ilham Aliyev has visited Iran seven times, demonstrating the significance he places on the development of Azerbaijani-Iranian relations," Mustafayev noted. "The current dynamics of our relations are highly encouraging, and there are promising prospects for expanding cooperation in various fields, including the economy, trade, investment, transport, energy, agriculture, and more. Last year, trade turnover between our countries increased by over 30 per cent."
Mustafayev also highlighted the importance of new transport connections, such as the one linking the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic with the rest of Azerbaijan, which he believes will play a key role in regional development.
"The new transport route connecting Nakhchivan with the main part of Azerbaijan will significantly contribute to regional development," he stated. "Additionally, the North-South Transport Corridor and other initiatives, such as the Ordubad hydroelectric power plant, will also support this development."
The Deputy Prime Minister concluded by stressing that the upcoming visit of Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian to Azerbaijan will open new avenues for furthering cooperation between the two countries.
"We are confident that this visit will create new prospects for the continued growth of our bilateral relations," Mustafayev added.
