Azerbaijan leads by example with full payment to 2025 UN budget
Azerbaijan has once again demonstrated its commitment to international cooperation by becoming one of the first countries to fully pay its membership fee to the United Nations (UN) budget for 2025.
The deputy spokesman of the UN Secretary-General, Farhan Haq, confirmed the news, Caliber.Az reports via local media. Haq noted that Azerbaijan is among a small group of nations, including Australia, Finland, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, and Ukraine, that have completed their payments to the UN budget this year.
To date, Azerbaijan is one of 25 UN member states that have fulfilled their financial obligations for 2025.
The UN budget is funded through membership contributions from all 193 member states. The amount each country contributes is determined based on specific criteria, including their economic solvency. These funds are primarily allocated to cover administrative expenses of the UN’s central bodies, such as the General Assembly, various special committees, and the Secretariat. A significant portion of the budget is also dedicated to funding peacekeeping missions worldwide.
Azerbaijan has been a dedicated member of the UN since March 2, 1992, following a resolution adopted at the 46th session of the UN General Assembly. On that historic day, Azerbaijan’s national flag was raised in front of the UN headquarters in New York. Shortly afterwards, on May 6, 1992, Azerbaijan established its permanent representation in the organization, further solidifying its commitment to the principles and objectives of the United Nations.
Azerbaijan’s timely contribution reaffirms its dedication to supporting the UN’s global mission of peace, security, and sustainable development.
