Azerbaijan oil transport falls in early 2026 while gas shipments rise
Azerbaijan transported 5.27 million tonnes of oil through its main export pipelines in January–February 2026, marking a 12.9% decline compared with the same period last year, according to data released by the State Statistics Committee of Azerbaijan.
The majority of oil shipments—around 77%—were carried via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, which transported 4.06 million tonnes during the reporting period, down 8.5% year-on-year, Caliber.Az reports.
The committee indicated that most of the oil flowing through the pipeline originated from Azerbaijan itself, accounting for 83.1% or about 3.37 million tonnes. The remaining 16.9%, equivalent to roughly 686,400 tonnes, consisted of crude imported from Turkmenistan and Kazakhstan.
In contrast to the decline in oil transport, natural gas shipments increased over the same period. A total of 7.45 billion cubic metres of gas was transported via Azerbaijan’s main gas pipelines, representing a 4.8% rise compared with a year earlier.
Nearly half of this volume—49.4%—was delivered through the Baku-Tbilisi-Erzurum pipeline, which carried 3.68 billion cubic metres of gas, up 7.9% year-on-year.
