Azerbaijan pioneers “green” energy zones in Karabakh for net zero goals
At a panel session during the UN Pre-COP29 conference in Baku, Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov underscored the establishment of “green” energy zones in Karabakh as a pivotal initiative in the pursuit of net zero emissions.
Shahbazov announced plans to implement projects capable of generating 7 gigawatts of renewable energy by 2030, with a remarkable 70 per cent of this output earmarked for export, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
He highlighted the significance of these “green energy corridors” in facilitating a transition to clean energy, connecting regions from Central Asia to Europe. As the inaugural host of COP29 in the region, Azerbaijan is committed to ambitious climate objectives, including a new agreement and the operationalization of Article 6 of the Paris Agreement.
Shahbazov emphasized Azerbaijan's proactive role in advancing the global energy transition, detailing extensive efforts aimed at removing existing barriers and enhancing financial flows for sustainable energy initiatives.
Through these endeavours, Azerbaijan is poised to make a substantial impact on the international landscape of renewable energy.
