Azerbaijan raises alarm on landmine threats at international mine action conference
A delegation from the Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) attended the Countering Explosive Threat and Demining Conference held in London.The event convened experts and representatives from over 30 countries, including more than 150 specialists from leading global organizations dedicated to mine clearance and explosive ordnance disposal,
ANAMA delegation delivered a detailed presentation titled “The Landmine and Explosive Remnants of War Problem in Azerbaijan,” which underscored the significant humanitarian threat posed by landmines and unexploded ordnance worldwide, Caliber.Az reports, citing ANAMA.
The presentation spotlighted the extensive scale of mine contamination in Azerbaijan, particularly in areas recently liberated from occupation.
The delegation emphasized the ongoing efforts and progress in demining operations across these territories, highlighting innovative methodologies and technologies employed by Azerbaijan to accelerate and enhance the effectiveness of clearance activities. ANAMA’s presentation sought to raise international awareness about the persistent risks that mines and explosive remnants of war represent to civilian populations and infrastructure, stressing the urgent need for continued global cooperation and support.
The conference provided a vital platform for sharing expertise, fostering collaboration, and exploring emerging solutions to the challenges posed by landmines and explosive hazards.
