Azerbaijan ranks 28th in Paris 2024 Paralympics medal standings
Azerbaijan has concluded the 17th Paris 2024 Summer Paralympic Games, ranking 28th.
The Azerbaijani team members grabbed 4 gold, 2 silver, and 5 bronze medals. Nineteen athletes represented Azerbaijan, competing in seven different kinds of sports, Caliber.Az reports, citing local media.
Imamaddin Khalilov (para taekwondo athlete, 70 kg), Said Najafzade, and Orkhan Aslanov (both in long jump, T12 and T13 categories, respectively) grabbed gold. Lamiya Valiyeva set a world record to win gold in the 100-metre sprint and also grabbed silver in the 400-metre race. Raman Salei grabbed silver in the 100-metre backstroke and two bronze medals in the 100-metre freestyle and butterfly events.
Sabir Zeynalov (para taekwondo, 58 kg), Vali Israfilov (100-metre breaststroke), and Ilham Zakiyev (para judo, +90 kg) grabbed bronze. China topped the Paralympics medal table with 94 gold, 76 silver, and 50 bronze medals. The UK ranked second (49 gold, 44 silver, 31 bronze), while the US rounded out the top three (36 gold, 42 silver, 27 bronze).
