Azerbaijan reveals voter numbers and polling plans for September elections
Chairman of Azerbaijan's Central Election Commission (CEC) Mazahir Panahov has revealed the number of eligible voters in the ccountry.
In his remarks at today’s commission meeting, Panahov said that 6,421,073 citizens are eligible to vote in the upcoming snap elections for the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan, scheduled for September 1, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
The CEC chairman noted that over 42,000 voters will be able to cast their ballots in the liberated territories. There will be 54 polling stations in these areas, with 34 being permanent and 20 temporary. The number of temporary stations may be increased if necessary.
The CEC has registered 321 international observers to monitor the elections, Panahov added. Additionally, 93,964 local observers have been accredited for the election.
A request has also been reviewed from another organization expressing its intention to conduct an exit poll during the Milli Majlis elections.
According to Rovzat Gasimov, CEC Deputy Chairman, the Social Research Center has applied to conduct an exit poll at 750 polling stations across 75 electoral districts. This application was put to a vote and approved.
Earlier, the CEC had positively resolved applications from the Labor Rights Protection League in collaboration with the US Oracle Advisory Group, and the Progress - Social Research Public Union in partnership with the Italian research company SWG S.P.A.
